The newest method of identification is micro chipping.
The microchip is a computer chip that is no larger than a grain of rice. The veterinarian implants it by injection between the shoulder blades. The dog feels no discomfort. If your dog is lost and picked up by the humane society, they can trace you by scanning the microchip, which has its own code.
Microchip scanners are friendly to other brands of microchips and their registers. The microchip comes with a dog tag saying the dog is micro chipped.
