My name is Carla Lohuis – Smeehuyzen. Together with my husband Frits Lohuis we have a Pomeranian kennel Petit Poms. I take care of the poms and my husband is the handler |

When and how you get the idea for going in the activity of breeding Pomeranians? |
My mother is a cats breeder also she is a judge so I grow up in a breeder’s world. My mother is still actif in the cats breeders world sometimes we are together on the same day at a show This is a link to here website http://members.upc.nl/p.smeehuyzen/index.html
9 years ago my only child Francy Lohuis was going to live with her friend. My husband how is working for the city of Rotterdam is always very busy so for fun I start with Pomeranians. I have to say I have my first 2 Pomeranians 29 year ago.

| How many dogs do you have currently? |
|
| At this moment we have 12 Pomeranians. We are small breeders we want to breed excellent poms for the shows |

How do you decide which male to choose for your females? |
|
I am not only looking at the pedigrees but also look at the dogs
What do I like about them and what do I want to breed better.

What are the bloodlines you preffer? |
|
Of course I like Chriscendo and Finch but also like English lines
I have imported a few poms from Belarus this year and I expect the will gif my stunning Pomeranians.

| Is there something specific in taking care of the little babies? |
|
| Yes I already start with the mother wan she is pregnant it is so import to gif them a good start. |

| How do you choose the owners of the Pomeranian babies? |
|
Wow this is difficult I have so many people that want a puppy from my kennel. Also a lot of pet puppies but for me it is imported tad if you breed a show pom tad it will go to the show. Way breeding beautiful dogs tad never been at a show. The emails I have mus gif my good feeling. Also how people introduce them self’s

Yes I love to stay in contact with my sold puppies
It’s important to know how they grow up and what they are doing at the shows and if I can help them with advise

| What are the problems that you find in your activity? |
Finding good poms for my breeding program... I have been cheat a lot of times, the least time the have send my Pomeranian with now tentacles. So it’s better to pick them up for you’re self and look at the dog |
| Did you sometimes think to give up because of these reasons? |
| Yes many, many times but not only because of the breeding problems |
| What health problems the pomeranians experience most often? |
| Problems with teeth, leg problems and of cores the coat problems |

| Are there any inherited genetic problems that all puppies should be tested for? |
I really hoop they will find a test fore the BSD problem but I think if the will find it 80 % of the poms will be infected |

| What are the most memorable things in your work till now? |
|
I am very proud that you can find petit poms around the world. Also there grand children so have Sharon handsome from Jan-share a boy from us Tinker toy petit poms
He have already many children how are champions
And we have a champions in Russia ,Belgium , Germany. Luxemburg, Nederland a best is show pom in Norway (ambassador petit poms) he will be a champion this year but I have import 24 Pomeranians
And I have sold most of them as a pet because I was not happy with them not perfect fore my breeding program
The have Healt problems I don’t want to breed with and it cost a lot of money

| What do you think about the pomerniranian grooming? |
|
It takes time to learn
It’s not something you can do from the first moment
You have to look very good to the dog you want to groom and if I am still learning, you never too old to learn.

| How do you prepare yourself and your dogs for the showring? Is there any secret you would like to share? |
|
I always clean my poms 1 day before the show led the dog walk of the your groom him and see if there is sometimes you want to do better
you can better cut 2 times tan only 1 time you can not take the coat back if you cut it wrong

| From you point of view what would be the future of the Pomeranian breed? What will be its development? |
|
We have to be careful not to breed to small this will bring lot of health problems, of course pet owners like teacups but for my it is imported tad the mother is very health, close fontanell, good movement, NOW UNDERBITES
And I tray to breed girls tad don’t need c sections
I have only 1 c ,secion in all this years

What are your advices for the people that intend to choose Pomeranian? |
|
Take you’re time
Don’t want to start to fast, lots of people only want to breed so the have dogs on there on kennel name but what is a kennel name if these dogs are no good.
It’s not something you can be proud of the don’t care what problems there parents have
If you find samting in you’re breeding program tad gif health problems
Stop breeding with these dogs
It can GIF you problems fore many, many years, sometimes it better to start all over again, Next time you will be luckier it’s really not an easy breed Pomeranians
